You’ll explore Tarrafal’s historic sites, like the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, and get to know your surroundings with evening walks along the beach and through local neighborhoods.
Your Cape Verde group volunteer trip focuses on social service learning - whether you’re coaching sports, helping in childcare, or assisting with light construction or teaching. Strengthen your bond with your group as you join pottery workshops, learn traditional Kriolu cooking, and take your first steps in the local language. Between project days, enjoy active adventures like a scenic cycling tour through the island’s mountains, relaxing hikes to the lighthouse, and beach bonfires under the stars. Wrap up your journey with a cultural evening of Morna and Funana music and a farewell dinner in the capital city of Praia. Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Praia

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be picked up and transferred to the Centre. After arriving, you’ll receive a short introduction to the Centre and have time to settle in.

Day 2 – Orientation & Cultural Introduction

Introduction session
Discuss the itinerary and the projects
Introduction about Cape Verdean Culture, Do’s and Don’ts, local beliefs and way of life
First Kriolu Language Lessons
Excursion to the Tarrafal Concentration Camp
Tour the surroundings: get to know where houses and projects are located, find nearby shops and services, tourist areas, and public transit
Visit Tarrafal Beach for a nice evening walk
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Community Project & Language Class

Social Service Learning & Community Project: Sports Coaching / Childcare / Construction / Teaching
Second Kriolu Language Class
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Community Project & Cooking Class

Cooking Lesson – Make your own authentic Cape Verdean dinner with the help of a local expert

Day 5 – Community Project & Reflection Session

Evaluation & Feedback Session, followed by Volleyball / Soccer at the Beach

Day 6 – Pottery Workshop & Beach Visit

Workshop at Tras De Munti: Learn local pottery skills
Visit Ribeira Das Prata Beach and the lagoon at Piscina Natural de Cuba

Day 7 – Cycling Tour & Cultural Game

Cycling Tour: Explore the natural surroundings of Tarrafal
(Scenic 6-hour ride through Cape Verde’s mountainous landscape)
Learn Uri, a traditional two-row mancala-style board game
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 – Hike & Cultural Evening

Hike to the Lighthouse, relax at the lagoon, and return to Tarrafal
Pack your bags for the transfer to Praia
Experience traditional Cape Verdean music – Morna and Funana

Day 9 – City Tour & Farewell Dinner

Tour the Capital City of Praia
Historical tour of Cidade Velha
Goodbye Dinner

Day 10 – Departure

Departure transfer back to the airport
